Epsilon Systems Solutions, Inc. has a contingent job opportunity for a full-time Shipboard Hydraulic Systems Mechanical Technician II in Norfolk, VA.

Summary: The Shipboard Hydraulic Systems Mechanical Technician II will support to Mid Atlantic Regional Maintenance Center (MARMC) Code 254.

Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Provide support for various assessments, inspections, and fleet technical assistance as tasked via separate correspondence.

  • Provide technical assistance, assessment, inspections, corrective actions, and groom support as tasked.

  • Some of the equipment/services to be supported include but are not limited to the following equipment: Ship's Steering Systems, Anchor Windlass,Controllable Pitch Propeller Systems and Bow Thrusters.

  • Conduct cold/hot checks to determine equipment condition and identify parameters that are out of specification. Observe operation of the equipment by ship's force to witness the full range of performance where possible.

  • Utilize appropriate measuring equipment to obtain data for evaluation.

  • Evaluate findings of the cold and operational checks and make adjustments and repairs to the maximum extent possible during the time available.

  • Provide written visit debrief/reports to the SME upon completion of each ship visit.

  • Attend conferences, seminars, etc. and report results to the SME as required.

  • Provide on the job training to Ship's Force (S/F) during shipboard evolutions.

  • May require travel 10% or greater.

  • May require overtime.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • H.S. Diploma or equivalent.

  • Minimum of four (4) to eight (8) years of experience operating, maintaining, trouble- shooting, and testing shipboard hydraulic systems to include hydraulic controls trouble-shooting and systems maintenance.

  • Must have an in-depth knowledge of ship's Steering, Anchor Windlass and Controllable Pitch Propeller Systems is required.

  • In-depth knowledge of shipboard hydraulics, hydraulic controls systems trouble-shooting and systems maintenance

  • Specialized experience shall be demonstrated in troubleshooting and assessment of US Naval Steering, Anchor Windlass, and CPP Systems equipment, in the official capacity of a SME for either a US Navy Engineering Activity, OEM, or industrial/commercial activity.

  • Detailed experience with regard to ship's Steering Systems, Anchor Windlass, Fin Stabilizer Systems, Torpedo Strikedown Lift Systems, Controllable Pitch Propeller Systems and Bow Thrusters.

  • Must have recent (within 24 months) hands-on experience with the respective equipment to support.

  • Experience as a formal instructor or providing classroom/on-the-job instruction is a plus.

  • Demonstrate an ability to interpret wiring diagrams, control schematics and plans and the ability as Subject Matter Expert (SME) to troubleshoot, analyze and provide distance support for listed equipment.

  • Must be knowledgeable in interpreting, reviewing and applying work specifications, electronic cooling water maintenance standards/practices, repair procedures and technical documentation.

  • Demonstrate a working knowledge of Navy assessment programs, inspections, visit processes and reporting methods for visits

  • Demonstrate regularly using accepted current instrumentation for diagnosing equipment.

  • Demonstrate ability for interpreting ship's drawings, wiring diagrams and control schematics as required to accomplish assigned tasks.

  • Ability to interact and support other inspection teams such as but not limited to INSURV, ERAT.

  • Familiarity with JFMM guidelines and policies.

  • Comply with NAVSEA standard items.

  • Ability to communicate effectively in writing and orally.

  • Functional knowledge of MS Office Suite for compiling information for reports and history files and transfer digital pictures from camera to computer and enhance as required and label them for report purposes.

  • Pursuant to the various government contractual requirements, all applicants must be U.S. Citizens.

  • Must possess or ability to obtain and maintain a secret clearance

ADA Notations:

  • Must be able to lift, carry and transport heavy equipment and boxes up to 50 lbs.

  • Able to perform other duties as required which may involve high heat, humidity, noise and dirty conditions.

  • Job may require bending, stooping, lifting.

  • Able to work on and climb ladders, work in extreme temperature environments, aboard ships, in shipyards, under industrial conditions and in confined spaces.

  • Able to perform other duties as required which may involve high heat, humidity, noise and dirty conditions, working aloft or over the sides of vessels.

  • May require wearing a respirator.

  • Most work is performed aboard ships or in industrial conditions.

  • Travel may be required within and outside of the continental United States
