Summary:

ITT Corporation is pursuing an enthusiastic direct-hire Product Development Engineer to join their Motion Technologies division in Novi, MI. This individual will be responsible for accelerating the development and validation of its friction materials products used throughout the automotive industry. As a leader in the sector, ITT considers this position an essential role for growth in the North American region. Acting in this role, the product development engineer will receive the full support of a multifunctional global team to achieve the following job responsibilities:



Responsibilities

  • Support product development projects in an organized and timely manner with the direct collaboration of the global research department, while reporting to the Product Development Manager. This includes, but is not limited to experiment design, test preparation/execution, scheduling, data analysis and reporting the relevance of results.
  • Work closely with the customer to understand the technical challenges they face, which product characteristics are key to their organization to ensure the development of ITT products are robust for their needs.
  • Develop new and effective laboratory, dynamometer, and vehicle testing methods/criteria that correlate to specific braking characteristics and/or detect failure modes associated with field related concerns.
  • Employ customer specific test methods to effectively present the development of new products prior to project pre-selection phase.
  • Day-to-day support in key aspects of ITT’s laboratory and prototype finishing facility equipment, including department processes, scheduling, and deliverables.
  • Writing reports and/or presentations to support active projects or problem resolution.
  • Technical support to the vehicles testing department regarding key evaluations of product characteristics.
  • Domestic and International travel to support customer site visits, projects, PPAP’s and/or testing activities.


Qualifications

Position Requirements:

  • Solid interpersonal skills, excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Strong desire to work in “Hands-on” situation in a fast-paced environment.
  • A self-starter, who can operate independently and lead multifunctional teams when necessary.
  • Effective capabilities in the MS Office Suite, with a specific advance capability in Excel and Visual Basic; with some experience in experiment design.
  • Bachelor of Science (B.S.) in Material Science, Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, or a Materials related degree.
  • Practical experience utilizing general laboratory testing equipment and analysis tools.
  • Maintain a safe and organized work environment (5S).

Desired/Preferred Skills:

  • Previous experience in product development, composite design, or manufacturing.
  • A background working hand-on with automobiles.
  • Six Sigma Green Certification.
  • Problem Solving Techniques (E.g., Shainin, 8D, Ishikawa, 5 Why, Pareto)
