Physical Requirements
Applicant is expected to be able to lift objects up to 25 lbs and push and pull objects on a wheeled cart. Job requires prolongedsitting and may require periods on long standing. Repetitive motions such as pipetting and scruffing of mice are a regular part of the job.

Shift
Day shift. Monday through Friday, 8:30am – 5:00pm. May be required to work occasional nights and weekends. Will be required to come in at 6:00am to fast rodents as needed.
Job Summary
The Rashid Laboratory uses rodent models and cell-culture techniques to study mechanisms by which environmental factors lead to the development of type 2 diabetes. Using wild-type and transgenic mouse models, we investigate how environmental chemicals disrupt glucose homeostasis, with particular emphasis on insulin resistance and hepatosteatosis.

In a second project, we use rats to study how being born with low birth weight leads to pancreatic beta-cell dysfunction. A Research Associate is needed to perform GTT, ITT, quantify glucose-stimulated insulin secretion (in vivo, ex vivo and in vitro) in mice and rats, maintain transgenic mouse colonies, and perform survival surgeries in rats.

The Research Associate is also responsible for managing our various research projects, ordering supplies, and training laboratory personnel.
Skills / Knowledge / Abilities
