Working hours Between Monday – Friday 8:00am to 4:30pm.

Job Summary
The Kentucky Geological Survey is seeking a detail-oriented and motivated individual to work on an 18-month grant funded project. The project’s goals include identification and scanning of documents at the Earth Analysis Research Library in a facility off-campus. The position is eligible for healthcare benefits.
What you’ll do:
Identify and match long-form paper elogs to existing online documents for comparison
Use existing workflows and naming conventions to ensure accuracy and findability
Scan elogs to create clean digital representations for Kentucky’s oil & gas well database
Scan large-format documents and maps upon request
Maintain document order for archival storage and processing
Confirm that files appear in proper locations online without errors
Learn established KGS naming conventions for files and other resources
Work closely with KGS staff to ensure data conformity and collection management systems

You have high attention to detail and can spot minute differences between data
You have an interest in geology or earth sciences
You care about findability and preservation of research data
Your written and verbal communication skills are clear (including handwriting)
You enjoy working on a small team
You are comfortable using scanning equipment and data entry fields
You have reliable transportation to access the facility on a daily basis
Where you’ll work:
EARL is a rock, mineral and soil analysis and storage facility located off UK’s campus. Your primary place of work is inside the Records Room at EARL, adjacent to the storage facility.

Skills / Knowledge / Abilities
Attention to detail, organizational skills, digital organization, document management, research investigative skills, maintaining a filing system, excellent communication and interpersonal relationship skills, teamwork, and must have legible handwriting.
Does this position have supervisory responsibilities? NoPreferred Education/Experience
Experience with maintaining work records for reporting and grant fulfillment needs; comfort with Excel or similar spreadsheet tools; ability to learn new workflows and procedures. Familiarity with Photoshop is a plus.
