The salary range for this position is $25.00 - $28.00 per hour depending upon qualifications and is non-negotiable.

The SDSU Institute for Transformative Education promotes college access and completion for underserved students, implements innovative programs to enhance excellence in teaching and learning in multicultural settings, and studies their outcomes. Founded in 1983, by our Executive Director, Dr. Cynthia Park, ITE provides an invaluable service to our community's multicultural low-income, underrepresented, and underserved students.

The SDSU Institute for Transformative Education under the SDSU School of Teacher Education is seeking an Academic Coordinator for our Six-Week Summer Academy. One of the Institute’s goals is to assist low-income and/or potential first-generation college students to prepare for success in college. The six-week programs provide participants with fast-paced, intensive academic coursework and teambuilding, cultural and other enrichment activities.



Responsibilities

The Academic Coordinator is responsible for but not limited to:

Core Responsibilities 95%

  • Assists the Academy Director (AD) with researching, planning, developing and implementing the activities and curriculum for distance learning summer academy.
  • Assist AD in creating academic plan for distance learning summer academy
  • Assist in providing support for teachers with instructional needs regarding technology matters
  • Submits academic course overviews and outlines to the AD.
  • Works with teachers to assure that the co-curricular activities and the academic classes’ goals and objectives are integrated.
  • Provides assistance to the Teaching Assistants (TA’s) and Resident Advisors/Instructional Aides (RA/IA’s) on student and staff interaction
  • Monitors participant progress and needs related to their academic classes during the daily supervised study sessions.
  • Maintains attendance records for each participant for academic classes and submits to academy administration as required.
  • Visits distance learning classrooms on a regular basis to confer with teachers and participants on the effectiveness of activities.
  • Maintains daily communication with the classroom teachers, RA/IA’s, TA’s, and participants to ensure effective academic and co-curricular academy implementation.
  • Participates (as available) in program co-curricular events.

Qualifications

Minimum Education & Experience

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • 4-years of progressively responsible experience in an office or administrative environment.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in science, health science, psychology, sociology, counseling, school psychology or a related field.
  • 5 Years experience leading a team of teachers in an academic setting.
  • Experience facilitating curriculum and academic staff meetings.
  • Experience with low-income and potential first-generation college, diverse populations.
  • Teaching Credential and experience teaching High School students
