Custodian II: performs journey level custodial work including performing custodial duties and assisting with the operation and maintenance of Galveston Island State Park. Custodian III: performs highly complex (senior-level) custodial work including performing custodial duties and assisting with the operation and maintenance of Galveston Island State Park. Duties include cleaning, landscaping such as mowing and weed eating, maintenance and repairs to facilities, equipment and grounds. Prepares various reports. Provides assistance and information to visitors concerning park rules and regulations. Works under close supervision, with minimal latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS Education : Graduation from High School or GED. Experience : Experience working with the public; Experience in fast turnaround cleaning; Experience with commercial and residential custodial theories and practices to include environmentally friendly techniques and products. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES Knowledge of general repair techniques to facilities and grounds; Knowledge of grounds maintenance; Knowledge of general cleaning techniques; Knowledge of methods, materials and equipment used in the care and cleaning of buildings, appliances and furnishings; Knowledge of basic mathematics; Skill in using MS Word, Excel and Outlook; Skill in effective verbal and written communication; Skill in providing quality customer service in a courteous and professional manner; Skill in cleaning and sanitation of bathrooms using chemicals in accordance with directions on labels; Skill in the operation of custodial equipment; Skill in the use and maintenance of building maintenance tools and equipment; Skill in establishing and maintaining effective work relationships with co-workers and work-related contacts; Ability to safely operate mowers and weed eaters; Ability to accurately follow instructions; Ability to work as a member of a team; Ability to work independently with little or no supervision; Ability to work with diverse groups; Ability to maintain flexibility and work with frequent interruptions and multiple and changing priorities; Ability to perform manual labor including lifting supplies and materials up to 50 lbs.; Ability to conduct work activities in accordance with TPWD safety program. WORKING CONDITIONS Required to work in a high visitation park with overnight camping; Required to work 40 hours per week, includes flexible schedules with hours other than 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. and days off other than Saturdays, Sundays and holidays; Required to perform work outdoors, occasionally in adverse weather conditions; Required to adjust to changing schedules; Required to respond to emergency and on-call situations; Required to perform manual labor including, lifting supplies and materials up to 50 lbs.; May be required to operate a State vehicle; Required to travel 5% with possible overnight stays; Must conform to agency work rules, safety program, and dress and grooming standards; Non-smoking environment in State buildings and vehicles.
