POSITION HIGHLIGHTS:
The Library Technician is responsible for overseeing library circulation duties for all library materials; checks books and other materials in and out, maintains the reserve collections, prepares library notices, bills and places academic holds. The position provides technical oversight and maintains the circulation, reserve, and scheduling modules of the library services platform (Ex Libris ALMA), identifies system errors or problems and will work with appropriate areas to resolve difficulties. They will handle issues concerning library users' inquiries and disputes concerning fines, fees, and overdue materials. Other duties include providing direction to library student assistants, overseeing the shelving of books and materials, and receiving and responding to requests and questions from faculty, staff and students.

This position works under limited direct supervision so the candidate should have excellent organizational skills and a thorough working knowledge of Library Service Platforms.

The work schedule is Monday through Thursday, 7:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., and Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. Over the summer the schedule changes to Monday through Thursday, 7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. with Friday off.

PRE-EMPLOYMENT REQUIREMENTS:
  1. The successful applicant will be required to complete a medical history questionnaire and must agree to undergo and pass a pre-employment physical examination, based on the physical requirements of the position, prior to employment. The physician will be selected and paid for by the District. Disabilities not related to the essential physical job requirements will not preclude the applicant from being hired.
  2. Education Code • 87408.6 states that no person shall be initially employed by a community college district in an academic or classified position unless the person has submitted to an examination within the past sixty (60) days to determine that he or she is free of active tuberculosis.
  3. As a condition of employment, the position you are applying for will require that you provide fingerprints to the local police department. The fee charged by the Department of Justice (DOJ) for the fingerprint report is the employee's responsibility. If you should be offered this position you will be asked to sign a payroll deduction form which will authorize the District to deduct the fee charged by the DOJ from your first paycheck.
