Position Description

Performs supervisory and coordinative work in the operation of a specific program or departmental project. Responsibilities involve the coordination and supervision of the various functions and aspects of a specific program as well as the monitoring of program staff and operational procedures. Work is performed under general supervision with evaluation based on results obtained. May supervise program staff, volunteers and student assistants.

Major/Essential Functions

The primary function of this position involves obtaining insurance authorizations for office visits, pre-authorizations for surgical procedures , injections, and minor procedures. The employee would review the provider’s schedule to identify required authorizations for the patient’s appointment. Communicate with payees to answer questions and provide additional supporting documentation for authorizations.

Required Qualifications

High school graduation plus five (5) years progressively responsible related experience; additional related education may exchange for required experience on a year for year basis.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience in an Ophthalmology office is preferred but not a requirement. Preferred knowledge of working with insurance programs and verifying benefits and eligibility but the employee will be trained of clinic expectations in these areas. Must possess a core commitment to customer-centered service. Must possess the ability to coordinate and work as a team. Requires strong verbal and written communication skills. Ability to manage numerous details with a results-oriented commitment. Ability to write business and professional correspondence. Strong knowledge of managed care plans. Strong organizational skills. Excel or similar programs, Word, IDX knowledge.

Pay Statement

Compensation is commensurate upon the qualifications of the individual selected and budgetary guidelines of the hiring department, as well as, the institutional pay plan. For additional information, please reference the institutional pay plan on the Human Resources webpage.
