As a Destination Anywhere Support Staff, you'll be working in a supportive group environment with fellow awesome staff! Position Overview: St. David's Center is hiring Support Staff to work in our Destination Anywhere program, providing services to clients ages 18+ with special needs in a recreational group setting. Support Staff are responsible for providing a safe, structured environment for participants to build friendships, participate in various physical and social activities, and become more involved members of their community.

Our Therapeutic Recreation Services Destination Anywhere program provides person-centered, community-based programming that focuses on modeling, teaching, and promoting positive peer relationships, overall wellbeing, and community involvement.

Support Staff are responsible for 2 or 3 clients at a time. Responsibilities include:
  • Promoting full participation, peer interactions and positive behavior(s) in group settings
  • Assisting clients in their communication skills
  • Supporting clients with their goals
  • Providing emotional regulation support
  • Aiding with personal cares, as directed
  • Ensuring participant(s) safety
  • Transporting designated participant(s)

Through therapeutic recreation we work on the enhancement of physical, cognitive, social, and affective development of every individual through personalized Therapeutic Recreation goals. We work alongside the participant, their family and team to empower and transform the person's life through a structured group environment, providing skills to build friendships, participate in group activities, become an active member of the community, and embrace health and wellness.

Schedule: 12 hours/week on Saturdays, 1-2x/month. Shifts are from 10:00 a.m. - 10:00 p.m. This is an ideal position for students!

Pay: $15.00 per hour.


You might be an ideal candidate if you meet the following qualifications:
  • A high school diploma or GED
  • Must have a valid driver's license, reliable transportation and an acceptable driving record
  • Applicants must have the ability to use clear and understandable written and verbal English
  • Must be able to monitor the safety and well-being of the participant(s) by managing, both verbally and physically, active, or behaviorally involved participant(s)
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both through written and verbal communication
  • Good organization and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to learn and perform procedures for the care of an individual with special needs

You might be extra awesome if you:
  • Training/education in therapeutic recreation, recreation and leisure studies, social sciences, education, health care, and/or human services
  • Previous experience working with individuals with developmental disabilities
  • Knowledge of development disabilities, community resources and activities
