Program Summary:

The Therapeutic Recreation Lead Staff is responsible for providing services to participants with intellectual/developmental disabilities in a variety of therapeutic recreational activities in a group setting within the community. This position is responsible for providing leadership to the therapeutic recreation programs, support staff and participants both on and off site. Lead Staff will provide a safe, structured environment to build friendships, encourage physical and social activity, become involved members of the community and embrace health and wellness. This will include, but not limited to implementation of activities and curriculum that the Coordinator has planned for After School, Summer, Release Days, Venture Forward, Adventure Night Out, and Destination Anywhere. The Lead Staff will ensure participant(s) safety in the group setting and/or community, communication and emotional regulation and personal cares are met. Lead Staff may provide services for one to three participants during a scheduled shift. Hours may vary throughout year dependent on program and client enrollment.

The Lead Staff is supervised by the Therapeutic Recreation Program Coordinator.

Position Overview:

Our Therapeutic Recreation Destination Anywhere Program provides person-centered, community-based programming that focuses on modeling, teaching, and promoting positive peer relationships, overall wellbeing, and community involvement.

Lead Staff are responsible for up to 3 clients at a time. Responsibilities include:

• Responsible for the daily operations of the Therapeutic Recreation programs; will ensure the planned itinerary and all its activities/events are carried out.
• Provide supervision with scheduled field trips and ensure overall group safety
• Communicate openly and regularly with Program Coordinators regarding daily operations of the specific site location(s) the specific site location(s)
• Model professionalism throughout the scheduled shift; providing leadership, guidance, support and oversight to the Therapeutic Recreation Support Staff. oversight to the Therapeutic Recreation Support Staff.

• Provide for the care and monitor the safety of the participant(s), assuring that their rights as an individual are maintained.
• Integrate the participant(s) into group social settings and assist with community involvement by participating in all activities with the participants.
• Demonstrate the ability to maintain composure and handle high stress situations with participants as well as work with a variety of behaviors and clients.
• Encourage and motivate participation in group setting(s) and/or in the community, promoting developmentally appropriate activities, promoting positive behavior(s) and encouraging peer interactions among program participant(s).
• Ensuring participant(s) safety in the community as well as active communication and emotional regulation
• Provide regular direction and oversight to all the participants of the program alongside the Therapeutic Recreation Support Staff

Through therapeutic recreation we work on the enhancement of physical, cognitive, social, and affective development of every individual through personalized Therapeutic Recreation goals. Schedule: Saturday's 10 AM - 8 PM

Shifts available both 1st and 3rd weekend of every month.

Pay: $16.38 - $18.90 DOQ

You might be an ideal candidate if you meet the following qualifications:

• Must be 18 years of age or older
• Must have a valid driver's license reliable transportation, and an acceptable driving record.
• A high school diploma or GED/equivalent
• Applicants must have the ability to use clear and understandable written and verbal English
• Must be able to monitor the safety and well-being of the participant(s) by managing, both verbally and physically, and active or behaviorally involved participant(s).
• Ability to learn and perform procedures for the care of an individual with intellectual/development disabilities .
• Ability to communicate effectively, both through written and verbal communication.

Demonstrate good organization skills and problem solving skills.

Ability to work autonomously at a remote setting without direct access to a supervisor.

Must have the ability to provide leadership, guidance and oversight to support staff.

Preferred:
No experience with people with disabilities is required; however, a desire to work with people and a willingness to learn is essential. Experience with individuals with disabilities highly desired. One year of supervisory experience preferred.
