The Department of Mechanical Engineering at the University of Minnesota, Twin Cities invites applications to a full-time, tenured or tenure-track position beginning in the fall of 2022 in thermodynamics and heat transfer. Candidates with expertise in the following fundamental and application domains of thermal transport are encouraged to apply: multi-scale and multi-mode transport, thermodynamics and thermal transport in energy conversion and energy storage systems, analysis and design of thermal-mechanical systems, thermal management and regulation in devices, bioheat transfer, and applications of the thermal sciences to renewable energy systems. We are seeking a faculty member who complements current expertise in our department and will grow strategic synergistic collaborations within our department and the university. We primarily seek candidates at the Assistant Professor level; however, senior tenured appointments are possible for exceptionally qualified candidates.

Qualifications

Applicants must have an earned Ph.D. (or equivalent degree) in mechanical engineering (or a closely related discipline) by the date of appointment. The successful candidate is expected to have the potential to conduct a vigorous and innovative research program. This candidate is expected to have the ability to effectively teach graduate and undergraduate level courses to a diverse group of engineering students. The candidate's research and teaching activities should enhance the department's teaching and research missions.

About the Department

The Department of Mechanical Engineering is home to 43 faculty, 333 graduate students, and 488 undergraduate students. UMN ME provides a high quality student experience founded on a research integrated education, with learning opportunities that capitalize on the unique aspects of our department and state. Our research encompasses all areas of mechanical engineering and addresses societal challenges in the areas of energy, environment and sustainability, human health, next-generation manufacturing, and robotics and mobility. The department is part of the College of Science and Engineering, a highly interdisciplinary college comprised of 12 departments covering engineering, physical sciences, mathematics, and computer science. The college and the University actively encourage and provide resources for interdisciplinary research collaborations.
