The Development Services Department ( DSD ) assists homeowners, business owners, and contractors when they build, demolish, remodel or perform any type of construction to ensure compliance with applicable city and building codes.
DSD is seeking a Planning Officer which will serve as a direct supervisor over the subdivision section of the Land Use Review Division, which currently includes six (6) full-time professional planners, and may include temporary staff and interns. Additional responsibilities include: monitoring performance measures, coaching staff on subdivision review and subdivision case management, making recommendations on process improvements, resolving conflicts and facilitating approval of applications and, assisting or taking lead on special projects such as revisions to the Land Development Code and related Criteria Manuals.

This position requires a Valid Texas Class C license or the ability to acquire one by your hire date.
External New Hires must meet the City of Austin's Driver Record Evaluation ( DRE ) requisite.
To be considered for a driving position, applicants cannot have more than three moving violations or a total of six Driver Record Evaluation points within a period of thirty-six (36) months.

* The minimum qualifications for a Planning Officer are: Graduation with a Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in Planning, Geography, Social Science, Landscape Architecture, or in a field related to the job, plus seven (7) years of related experience in planning, two (2) years of which were in a lead or supervisory capacity.
