Position Summary

Brief Description of PSU/School/Dept
The Center for Student Health and Counseling (SHAC) is a nationally accredited health care facility that offers medical health, mental health, dental services, health promotion and education, and academic testing services to the students of Portland State University. The center consists of over 100 clinical and administrative staff and operates Monday through Thursday 8:30am-5:30pm and Friday 9am-5pm. There are currently 20,000 students eligible to use our services.
Position Summary
The Patient Care Coordinator ( PCC) supports the health and counseling services and administrative teams. The PCC’s primary functions are to process patient referrals to outside specialty care and radiology, and perform tasks that support the operations of Health Services. The PCC serves as a valuable resource to students as they navigate obtaining outside healthcare services. In addition, the PCC supports and provides backup for the Medical Records Coordinator and the Student Insurance Coordinator, and provides administrative support to the Health Services team.This is a full-time, on-site position.
Minimum Qualifications from Classification
Two years of general clerical experience. One year of which included typing, word processing, or other experience generating documents; OR
An Associate’s degree in Office Occupations or Office Technology; OR
Graduation from a private school of business with a Certificate in Office Occupations or Office Technology AND one year of general clerical experience.

Note:
College courses in Office Occupations or Office Technology will substitute for the required experience on a year-for-year basis.
Additional Minimum Qualifications for this Position
  • Experience disclosing secure information while following state or federal guidelines.
Preferred Qualifications
  • One year experience working in a similar position in a primary care medical clinic or mental health clinic
  • Experience working with health insurance plans and/or the Oregon Health Plan
  • Experience assisting patients with referrals
  • Experience using an electronic health record
  • Knowledge of medical terminology

The starting salary rate for this position will be between $17.24/hour and $19.29/hour. The starting salary may be negotiable above this range, however, it will be dependent upon the knowledge, experience, skills and abilities of the chosen candidate, the budget of the hiring department, and approval from HR.
