Commencement Assistant

HOURS: Friday, June 7, 2024 & Saturday, June 8, 2024
EXEMPT STATUS: Non Exempt
JOB LOCATION: Fuller Pasadena Campus and Lake Avenue Church in Pasadena
Objective: This position contributes to Fuller Seminary through a variety of tasks preparing for, executing and striking the 2024 Fuller Commencement Ceremony.
Primary Responsibilities as Commencement Assistant Could Include Any of the Following:
Organizing materials to be used for regalia distribution and inventory, collating caps and hoods with gowns
Transporting materials to and from various offices on campus
General event set-up and strike of ceremony materials
Assisting with student and/or faculty line up for the processional
Assisting with student and/or faculty check-in
Radio distribution and organization
Lunch distribution and organization for workers
Serve as an Usher for the Commencement Ceremony on Saturday, which would include the following duties:
Distribute commencement programs to guests
Maintain crowd control
Answer guest questions
Gather lost items and take to “Lost and Found,” at the Information Booth inside the lobby
Enforce fire codes
Direct wheel-chaired and guests in need of access services to the inside info both where they will be escorted to appropriate seating
Enforce the “No Saving Seats” policy before the ceremony begins
Processional and Recessional support
Assist in other areas at end of the program as assigned
Provide a welcoming and friendly environment
Ceremony Clean up
Break down Fuller tables and Event Team supplies
Other tasks as assigned
Knowledge Skills and Abilities
Ability to communicate well in English; to follow oral and written directions.
Ability to communicate in Korean or Spanish is a plus - let us know if that is you!
Ability to work well with people in a multicultural environment
Ability to deal with difficult people and difficult situations with grace and tact
Strong interpersonal and customer service skills
Able to stand up to 4 hours at a time during events
Able to lift 30 pounds onto a cart, push/ pull 120 pounds on a cart, and climb stairs and stepladders
Ability to work independently
Other Details
Lunch is provided both days
Hours: 6-8 hours on June 7th and/or 6-8 hours on June 8th
Must be available to work in-person on June 7th and/or June 8th
Dress code for Ceremony on Saturday is business attire appropriate for a professional setting and sufficiently comfortable close-toed shoes
This position is open to family and friends of Fuller students as long as they are able to show eligibility to work in the United States
Reports to: Assistant Registrar, Graduation Services or other Commencement Staff as assigned
Pay: The Seminary expects to pay $17 per hour USD.
