Amherst College invites applications for the Warehouse Coordinator position. The Warehouse Coordinator is a full time, year round position, job group and level AO-4. The Warehouse Coordinator, having a thorough understanding of product and equipment use, is responsible for the operational function of Seymour Warehouse, the central receiving facility at Amherst College which houses custodial supplies, equipment, furniture, and lighting. Responsibilities include using general accounting practices to maintain accurate records, working with vendors and making general repairs to custodial equipment. In addition, the manager performs general custodial duties, participates in office moves and set ups for special events, provides general trucking both on-campus and off-campus, and coordinates the work of special services generalists when in the warehouse.

This position is designated as providing essential services and is expected to report to work even if the College is closed for weather related or other reasons. Some overtime, weekend and occasional shift change work is required.

The Warehouse Manager takes appropriate actions to support a diverse workforce and participates in the College's efforts to create a respectful, inclusive, and welcoming work environment.

Key Responsibilities

Warehouse Operations
  • Procure custodial supplies and equipment, and maintain accurate tracking of all warehouse items including furnishings
  • Obtain and compare bids from vendors, partnering with the Director of Procurement as needed
  • Execute and manage work orders through the facilities work order system using School Dude and EMS (Event Management System)
  • Bill departments for services and materials, processing invoices
  • Manage the warehouse operations budget
  • Manage customer service calls including coordinate deliveries in partnership with facilities and trades

Warehouse Staff Coordination
  • Provide direction to the part-time Special Services Generalist/Custodian performing work in the warehouse
  • Coordinate the warehouse work of Special Services Generalists as needed
  • Supervise students and casuals working in the warehouse as needed

Special Services - Trucking / Material Handling / Custodial
  • Deliver custodial supplies, equipment and furnishings, ensuring safe storage and moving of materials
  • Perform general custodial duties, and participate in office moves and event set ups


  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Valid Driver's License and successful credentialing is required in order to operate college vehicles
  • 1 year of related experience
  • General accounting skills
  • Experience with basic MS Office software
  • Strong organizational, time management, interpersonal, and written and verbal communications skills
  • Excellent customer service skills
  • Commitment to or experience working with a diverse community
  • An acceptable criminal offender records information (CORI) check

DOT Requirements for operating a CMV (operation of a vehicle in excess of 10,000 lbs. (GVWR, or more than 9 passengers)
  • Completion of CMV Driver Application
  • Able to read and speak English
  • Employment verification for preceding 3 years
  • State driving record
  • Driver History Check for preceding 3 years
  • Complete a road test
  • 21 years or older
  • DOT physical certifying the operation of vehicles weighing more than 10,000 pounds.
  • Drug and alcohol test

  • Associate's degree
  • 1 year of related vehicle and equipment use
  • General background in managing inventory and operating mechanical equipment safety
